TYPES OF SYNAESTHESIA IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Find your type here! Each link will take you to a description.

This list includes types and subtypes of synaesthesia and some common manifestations. There are also some phenomena that are similar but not considered to be synaesthesia.

Sometimes the terms are referenced in several different ways, to make it easier to find what you’re looking for. Remember that in the terms with a hyphen the “inducer” or stimulus comes first, followed by the “concurrent” or secondary synaesthetic perception, so for example "Taste-colour" is when tasting something makes you see a colour, not the other way round.

If you prefer, you can search in the Site Map (with a list of all the pages on this site, grouped by key words), the List of Synaesthesia Types by Prevalence or the Table of Synaesthesia Types by Combinations of Senses, and there’s also a search box on the right panel.

(Note: this page uses British English spelling (synaesthesia). In the rest of the web you'll find the international spelling "synesthesia" used, although the site is written in British English.)
